The Big TNT Start Over

Posted on February 8th, 2009 in TNT Diet, check in, choices | 3 Comments »

TIme to buckle down and get back on that TNT wagon. I like The idea of the Abs Diet, but it didn’t work for me this last month. Maybe later, huh.

Getting back onto TNT will take that wonderful 2 or 3 days of getting used to, but it’s time. I’m swithcing over to Fat Loss II from NROL as well. Right now my goal is to get down to 190, then re-evaluate. It seems that evry 10 pounds will be a good time to decide if I need to change anything.

Headaches are on the table for me the next 3 days, I started this morning and had a basketball ga,me tonight so I’ve already strated them tonight.here we GO!

Abs Diet

Posted on February 6th, 2009 in Abs Diet, TNT Diet, check in | 3 Comments »

Quick catchup. Doing TNT for 6 months I lost about 10 pounds. I’m down to my final 10 to 15 to lose so I was perpared for the weight lose to slow down.Doing the TNT diet in November and December, I lost nothing. That’s right 0.

I decided to change things up for the new year and try the Abs Diet. Long story short, I’ve put 10 pounds back on and am NOT happy about it. I don’t know what my issue is on Abs. Eating too much…I only ate till I felt full. Eating the wrong kinds of carbs…whole grains, fruit, and milk. Not eating enough…I’m afraid I’ll balloon up if I eat much more with these results.

We did have a vacation in there, but I put the bulk of this extra on after we got back. In fact, this last week.

I know I’m putting on some muscle, but my jeans are fitting tighter that I would like them too. Time to take a step back and decide; 1)Back to TNT; 2)Re-tool my Abs Diet and count calories and macro nutrients to see what issues I’ve got.

Fasted Cardio

This last week I started taking my protein shake after my run instead of before it. The idea behind it is to use the fatty acids in the bloodstream as energy during the cardio or HIIT instead of the shake eaten before. I’ve heard it can be catabolic, but I used to do it on my exercise bike (30-60 minute rides) and it seemed to work well for me then. So I wanted to give it a try during this wonderful holiday season where I tend to eat too much and not often enough.

Time will tell I guess.

34’s

Bought new jeans yesterday. First time in 19 years (over half my life) that I could buy jeans that were not 36’s or larger. I felt pretty stupid with how pleased I was with myself in the dressing room.

Goal Checkup

Posted on December 2nd, 2008 in check in, small victories | 3 Comments »

For this 52DC I will be missing both my weight loss goals and, according to my scale, my BF% lost goal. I am feeling stronger and like the direction my workouts are taking me but at the same time it is frustrating. One of those two measures should be falling and neither are.

I am begining to wonder if I should try a different diet/lifestyle plan for my food. The low-carb thing seems to have petered out and I can’t kick start it with carbs like I could at one point. My biggest problem seems to behaving a feeling of being full. I’m eating too much cheese again and I can’t find anything else to eat that gives me the same satiety as it. I’ve started trying to add fats in the form of olive oil, cream, sour cream, and nuts where it makes sense in an effort to add more fat to my diet. I’m hoping that this will keep me fuller longer.

My limbs are leaning out, but my tire seems destined to remain for much longer than I had thought. I don’t know what the answer is at this point. All I do know is tonight the fresh cookies were calling my name and I still managed to stay away!

Home Stretch

We are all entering the end of this challenge.  We all have our own obstacles in the way before the finish. The biggest one looming next is of corse Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving. The beginning of the holiday season. And I know this time of year I just want to let it go and not worry abuout eating for a month or so. This is always the time of year I sort of give up and get ready to re-dedicate myself for the New Year. Not so this time.

I will keep working out.

I will continue to make correct food choices.

I will not kick myself when I slip up eating. I will enjoy it, and get back to eating right at the next chance–Slips are OK, it’s the fall that you stay down for that will get you.

Changing Goals

Posted on November 19th, 2008 in check in, weight loss, workout | 1 Comment »

I’ve realized that my major goal has unconsciously switched from weight loss the muscle gain. this is probably because of 2 things.

1) The Advanced TNT workouts seem to be based more on gaining mucle size than fat burning.

2) The  grind of fat loss focus. It’s been 18 months that I’ve been focused on fat loss and I think I may be a bit burnt out on it.

Now I’d still like to lose weight, but my focus has definitely drifted a bit. Fat loss is fine, but getting stronger seems to give me more of a renewed effort and excitement in my workouts.

Mixed Feelings

My weight isn’t budging much these days. At times it gets frustrating. That being said, I’m lifting heavier, feeling stronger, and think I’m looking better than I have in a long time. It’s such a mindset change from 18 months of “Gotta lose, gotta lose” to more of a zen kind of “making the right choices will give me the correct results” without worrying about the weight.

My basketball season is over until January so now I’m really going to concentrate on gaining strength until the last week or so in December. I really need to get in the right mind of gaining weight being OK as long as it’s not in my belly!

Muscle weight gain GOOD!!

Belly fat weight gain BAD!!

Flexibility

Posted on November 14th, 2008 in dedication, workout | 1 Comment »

About a year ago I was trying the P90X program. The biggest thing I got out of it was being much more flexible than I have ever been. Just stupid things like tying shoes, picking things up off the ground, normal everyday stuff was easier. One of my goals for the 52DC was a set number of sessions to improve my flexibility. Things aren’t going so well.

I’m up to date on my stretching sessions, but my flexibility isn’t getting better. I don’t know if it’s lack of a set program, not enough time or sessions, or just not doing things right. anyway–It’s just not working and I’m frustrated with it tonight.

That being said, I’m tired and off to bed.

Changing Attitude Towards Carbs

I’ve been on some sort of low-carb diet since August of 2007.  First South Beach, a very brief Atkins stint, back to South Beach, then TNT. In all these diets, or lifestyles, starchy carbs are BAD. They cause that nasty insulin response that can lead to fat gain when you eat too much.

TNT has this basic take on it with a twist. Targeting carb intake at specific times to allow your body to use them correctly. Instead of a staple, carbs are seen as an important tool to build muscle, speark fat loss, and , in all honesty, keep you sane.

This weekend I had my refeed meal Friday night and a planned cheat Sunday morning for my mother-in-law’s birthday. This morning I weighed my lowest in 8 or 9 months. I guess you could say that TNT also uses carbs to trick your body into letting go of all that hard earned fat as well.
